Is this ride just for women or can men ride too?

Everyone is welcome to join this ride. The mission of CAROL For Heart is to eradicate women’s heart disease through education. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States yet it can be prevented. Women need to be proactive in their own heart health. This event is not only to raise funds for CFH but also raise awareness of this (often) preventable disease.

I am new to riding. Will I be able to do any of these routes?

This ride features a ride option for anyone and everyone. A beginner rider could do the 10 mile loop. Every bit of exercise you do is great for your heart! Getting started is never an easy thing but once you get back on your bike for a few rides you will be sure to fall in love with bike riding again – just like when you were a kid.

Do I have to raise additional pledge monies?

No, it is not mandatory to raise pledge monies in order to participate in Girls with Gears. The option is voluntary but there are some incentives to raise additional funds. For every $25 you raise, you will receive 1 Trek Bike raffle ticket and if you bring in $300 you will also receive a GWG Bike Jersey; $1,000 in pledges earns you a GWG Bike Shorts. Click here for Trek Bike Raffle details and GWG Bike Jersey / Bike Shorts details.

Do I have to ride with the group?

No, riding with the group and a ride leader is an option we offer on the 10 & 26 mile rides. The ride leaders are familiar with the route and are there to simply guide the ride. We will have at least 2 ride leaders on each ride – one in the front and one at the back of the group. At any time you can leave the group and ride on your own or simply start on your own. Cue sheets will be available for all rides and all roads will be clearly marked.

How early should I arrive before my ride departs?

Registration opens at 7am so please don’t arrive too much earlier than that. If you are riding with a group please see the Event Schedule for your departure time. Plan to arrive about ½ hour before your departure time to allow yourself time to check in and get ready to go.

What if I take longer to ride than is typical for the route I choose?

SAG will end at 2:30pm. We ask you to allow yourself extra time and start your ride as early as possible. Please see the Event Schedule for departure information. Should you find you are having any issues finishing by the end of the event please contact either the volunteers at the rest stops or call the emergency number on your cue sheet.
