Ray Price Releases His Last Album Before His Death
Album To Be Released on March 16, 2014
The iconic singer passed away last December, but he had time to record a final album for his fans.
“He called me in 2012 and said, ‘I think I have one album left in me; I’m not well, you know,’” producer Fred Foster says in a press release. “He said, ‘I want to do one last one, and I want you to do it with me.’ The whole time we were working together, his state of mind was always really good. You would never know how sick he was to talk to him.”
The project features Price’s signature string and shuffle sound, and duets with Vince Gill and Martina McBride. The album, titled ‘Beauty Is…,’ will hit shelves at Walmart and Cracker Barrel, as well as online retailers, on April 15. A three-song EP with song from the album will be released on March 16.
“Offstage, he was just the guy I love,” the singer’s wife, Janie, says. “When that red light went on in the studio, or when he stepped onto the stage and they handed him that microphone, something happened. It was a higher power. This transformation took place in him. He turned into Ray Price.”
Ray Price, ‘Beauty Is…’ Track Listing:
1. ‘Beauty Lies in the Eyes of the Beholder’ (with Vince Gill)
2. ‘This Thing of Ours’
3. ‘I Can See You’
4. ‘It Will Always Be’

6. ‘An Affair to Remember’ (with Martina McBride)

Early On Janie Price Writes:
I finally have some good news to share with you about Ray.
Today's reports show that the blood infection has started to respond to the antibiotics. Ray is much better tonight.
When we got him to the Intensive Care Unit this past Tuesday night, Ray was in critical condition. The Sepsis had spread throughout his entire blood stream and he was in Acute Kidney Failure.
Dr. Red Duke...assembled the Team of Specialists who went to work on Ray and this Great Physician never left Rays side during the crisis.
Ray was in distress with his breathing as his lungs had filled with water.
He was Incubated and started on Dialysis.
All day and night on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I sat beside Ray holding his hands and taking tto him. He could not speak but he grasped my hands and never let go. I called for the Chaplin and he arrived quickly. We had a prayer vigil over Ray. A Blessing He Was To Us!.
I kept both of our Facebook Pages on and I continually read Ray every one of your messages as they came in. From under the oxygen mask I saw Rays eyes light up. Sometimes a smile but many times tears as he would squeeze my hand when he was so moved by the love and prayers being sent up for him.
The Caring Staff kept me supplied with food and drinks and all I needed to be comfortable.
I watched as Ray recovered from the worse health crisis we have ever had. All of the Doctors were amazed!
We will remain in the Isolation Critical Care Unit until Ray is completely out of danger.
I have always known that Ray has Devoted Fans. I never knew until this week just how many of you are out there. The sheer number of Fans visiting our Facebook Pages is breathtaking!
I am at a loss for words of how to "Express My Gratitude" to each of you for your "Unceasing Prayers And Love".
With "God's Undying Love" and your love and support, our beloved "RAY PRICE" will live to sing another Day!
As for me, I am content to just sit here and hold "RAYS" hand.
Your Grateful Friend, Janie Price
As of this morning, Virgie Phillips reports this message from her Facebook page.
Hello Dear Friends,
So many of you have requested an update on Ray. Please forgive me for being so long in getting back to you.
Ray is still in the hospital and still in the ICU UNIT.
Ray is stable now. He is alert and talking to me and all of his Doctors and is aware of everything happening around him.
Thank The Good Lord, Rays SEPSIS is totally cleared up now. All culture results came back ...Negative!
So why are we still in the ICU?
Rays Team Of Doctors have all told me that he is suffering from a Multiplicity Of Conditions brought on by the pancreatic cancer and the previous cancer treatments he underwent last year. The Sepsis infection has thrown him into Acute Kidney Failure. This has caused another buildup of fluid around his lungs.
Dialysis was started but his blood pressure dropped too low and heart rate much too high from the rapid fluid removal.
He was switched to CVHD. This way the fluid is removed slowly, gently and continually over a much longer period of time.
That's the reason why we have to remain in ICU.
When I tell you that I read your post and messages, I mean that I read them all! I hear your concern. I understand that you care for Ray and are worried about him. I share those concerns with you.
Today marks Day #38 that Ray has been hospitalized. It is Day #10 in ICU. I have not left his bedside for a moment.
Virgie packed me up a Care Package of personal items and mailed to me. Dr. Red Duke hand delivered it to me yesterday and it was most welcome! . You know Virgie. She did not forget to include my favorite nonperishable snacks! !. So I am restocked and ready to last for as long as it takes! Ray has had some bad days and some good days. The good ones far outweigh the bad.
We are in good spirits and remain ever hopeful that this ordeal will soon come to a positive end.
Thanks to each and everyone of you who have sent words of encouragement and your love to us both. Your messages have been a great source of pleasure and has had an enduring effect on Ray. Believe me, we will fight this with every ounce of strength remaining in us. Ray has shown what a real survivor he is. The last thing he says to me every night is "Honey, I Just Want To Go Home".
With Your Good Thoughts And Prayers And The Good Lord Willing, He Will Get His Wish!
Remember Always That We Care For You!. Janie Price.
Ray And I Want To Thank God For Hearing All Of The Prayers Sent Up To Him From All Of You And For The Incredibly Miraculous Recovery That Ray Has Made!!!!
Ray has been downgraded from Isolution ICU to Intermediate ICU!
The hospital is the only place on Earth that the announcement "YOU HAVE BEEN DOWNGRADED" is a good thing!
If Ray continues to improve over this upcoming weekend, ...he will be able to leave ICU and move into an Acute Care Facility early next week.
We cannot go home yet because he has to have physician supervised dialysis. His kidneys were severely damaged by the Sepsis and we have to give them time to recover function.
A Dear Friend told me today this is Day 44 of our hospital stay.
Frankly, I have lost track of the days and the time passing.
All I know is that my Sweetheart is still alive and becoming more and more like his old self every day.
I have not been more than 10 steps away from his bedside and I promise you I will remain on constant vigil until we can walk out of this place together!
If you can find it in your hearts to stay with us just a while longer, I truly believe our God will bring us home!
Your Grateful Friend, Janie Price
Janie Price Is "VERY UPSET" !!!
UNFORTUNATELY AN UGLY RUMOR IS BEING SPREAD THROUGH OUT THE INTERNET AND FACEBOOK THAT RAY PRICE HAS PASSED AWAY. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!!
RAY PRICE IS VERY MUCH ALIVE!!
I AM SITTING HERE BESIDE HIM THIS VERY MINUTE!
In fact, Ray has improved so much we have left ICU and are now in an Acute Care Center. The Sepsis infection has damaged Rays kidneys severly. He has to remain ...in a Physician Supervised Dialysis Center until the Doctors can determine to what level his kidneys will regain function.
Dr. Red Duke wanted us to stay nearby until Ray is able to go home.
I now ask for your help in stopping this awful tale. If you see or hear it from any place, I will be grateful to you if you can help correct the wrong story.
RAY SAID "ALL OF YOUR PRAYERS HAVE GOTTEN ME THROUGH THIS TERRIBLE CRISIS. TELL WHO EVER IS SPREADING THIS STORY TO NOT RUSH ME.THE END WILL COME ON IT'S OWN SOON ENOUGH! ".
Thanks To You All, Janie Price
Special From Ray & Janie's Friend Virgio Phillip
Good after noon ever one hope all had a good week end. I went and visited Ray and Janie over the week end, and Ray really looked good for what he has been through. New Janie Price Is Excited & Very Happy!!
A Special Message From Ray Price
Looks like this Long Days Night is finally at an end.
I am winding down my hospital stay and looking forward to my own easy chair.
Janie and I are exhauted and to quote our hero, Audie Murphy, We Have Been To Hell And Back.
And like Audie said, This Has been A Tough Hill To Climb.
I plan to spend more time keeping up with you folks, so hang in there with me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me and Janie these last 60 days. Janie read them to me even when I could not speak a word. I will never forget your words of encouragement that gave me the will to live a little bit longer on this old earth.
Ray Price Has Come Home!
The Lord has Answered All Prayers For Janie Price And Her Family!
A BIG HELLO TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS!!
FINALLY!! RAY AND I ARE HOME!!
Ray was released from the hospital just in time for us to celebrate Thanksgiving Day at home.
I lost track of time and it is all just a blurred memory of days turning into nights and back again.
The only thing that I can tell you with great pleasure is that my Dear Husband, RAY PRICE is alive and has survived the vicious attack of the Sepsis Infection that just about took his life.
He remains very weak and his recovery will be slow. Doctors told me that 6 weeks is a general rule of thumb for regaining strength from battling Sepsis.
I have a great team of Health Care Providers with Ray here at home. His every need is taken care of by these caring professionals. In the comfort of our own home we both have finally gotten our rest.
I have to thank each of you for your continuing prayers and messages of hope. We have read all of them.
Only someone who has been where we were can appreciate the true meaning of how expressions of love and support can carry you through just one more day! And sometimes just one more day can make a difference between finding the strength to fight back or just giving up and letting someone go.
This Is Why Thanksgiving Day Was A True Blessing To Us. A special day we will always remember. Our family and a few close friends with us to celebrate our Homecoming.
Thank you Dear Friends, Thank you!!
Respectively, Janie Price

Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Price remained in stable condition Monday (Dec. 9) at a Texas hospital following complications related to pancreatic cancer.
The 87-year-old singer was hospitalized in October after being diagnosed with sepsis, a complication of an infection when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection cause inflammation throughout the body. He was dismissed from the hospital and spent Thanksgiving Day at home before returning to the intensive care unit of East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas, on Dec. 2.
In a Facebook posting, longtime friend Bill Mack, a member of the Country DJ Hall of Fame, said he had a lengthy phone conversation with Price's wife Janie on Sunday.
"The pancreatic cancer, as expected, is causing additional, serious issues, although he is now in 'stable' condition -- after going through a 'very tough week,'" Mack reported.
During a November 2012 interview with the San Antonio Express-News newspaper, Price revealed he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At the time, he acknowledged he had been receiving chemotherapy for six months. The cancer was discovered while his gallbladder was being removed after a gall stone attack.
Price began his career as a honky-tonk singer, charting his first single ("Talk to Your Heart") in 1952 and scoring his first No. 1 ("Crazy Arms") in 1956. "Crazy Arms" spent 20 weeks at the top of Billboard's country songs chart. Price continued in the honky-tonk vein throughout the '50s and enjoyed No. 1 singles with "City Lights" and "Heartaches by the Number."
His greatest mainstream success came in 1970 with his recording of Kris Kristofferson's "For the Good Times." With his smooth vocal style set against a lush orchestra, it reached No. 1 on the country chart and was also a major pop hit.
"Ray Price" Comes Home For Hospice Care
Country music legend Ray Price leaving hospital for East Texas home, leaves final message for fans.
We are so saddened to hear the news about Ray Price. He is in our prayers.
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -Country Music Hall of Fame member and country music legend Ray Price, 87, plans to leave East Texas Medical Center in Tyler on Thursday to go to his home in Mount Pleasant where he will be provided with hospice care.
Price, who is best known for his country classics, including Release Me, Crazy Arms and For the Good Times, has been battling pancreatic cancer since 2011. Since then, the disease has spread to his liver, intestines and lungs, even with aggressive treatment. Price and his wife, Janie, who have been married for 45 years, made the decision not to pursue further aggressive treatment for the cancer.
"Ray is alert and aware of his surroundings and making decisions," said Janie. "With God's blessing he has not had extreme pain. But it's with great sadness that I announce to you today that my beloved husband has entered the final stages of his cancer that he has battled for 25 months. Anyone who knows Ray is aware that he has strong convictions and great faith in God. It's his decision to leave the hospital and return home to spend his final days on his beloved ranch surrounded by the comfort of his home, family and friends."
In a final message to his fans, Price said, "I love my fans and have devoted my life to reaching out to them. I appreciate their support all these years and I hope I haven't let them down. I am at peace. I love Jesus. I'm going to be just fine. Don't worry about me. I'll see you again one day."
Janie thanked Price's fans and said that fans may leave them a note on their Facebook page or by sending a card to:
Ray Price, P.O. Box 1986, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75456.
Price has earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including 62 albums that earned Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association and Grammy Awards. In 1996, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Born on Jan. 12, 1926 in Perryville, TX, Price attended North Texas Agricultural College before leaving school to join the Marines in 1942. Returning home in 1946 after World War II, Price went back to college for a short time while performing at local clubs and honky-tonks. Three years later, he decided to make music his full-time career and never looked back.
In 1953, Price formed his band The Cherokee Cowboys. Many talented musicians began their careers with the band, including Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, Roger Miller, Johnny Bush and Buddy Emmons.
Price is an advocate for true country music, which he believes is "something for the people."
"It's story songs," he said.
Price, known as the "Cherokee Cowboy," performed on the CMA Awards, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Dean Martin, Marty Stuart and a variety of other television shows. He performed his last show in May. Price has a new CD coming out and several tribute shows are already being planned to celebrate his career, including one in Nashville on Feb. 12.
